Genesis 22:1 And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.
Get to the place where your response to an instruction from God is to say, “I will do whatever you say Lord”. Why should it be any different when He is in a better position to determine what course of action is better for us? Abraham understood this so his posture every time that God gave him an instruction was to willingly respond in the affirmative. When he was called to leave his family behind at Haran, he immediately got up and left without resisting the instruction of God. What he was indirectly communicating to God was “I will do whatsoever you say Lord”.
It was the same attitude that Abraham depicted in Genesis 22:1 when God called his name. Abraham said “Behold, here I am”. Because the word “behold” used in that context means truly or surely, by responding with “Behold, here I am” what Abraham was effectively saying to God was with all sincerity, I am ready and willing to do whatever you say Lord. Bear in mind that he did not know what God was going to ask him to do before he responded in this way. As far as Abraham was concerned, it did not matter what God would tell him to do, he was going to do it anyway. What had happened is that Abraham had been walking with God long enough that God would never lead him down the wrong path.
There is a peace of mind that comes with knowing that you are doing the right thing. Although what God told Abraham to do – sacrifice his son, was difficult to fathom. Because it was an instruction from God, Abraham knew he was doing the right thing. Therefore, he did it without hesitation. The attitude displayed by Abraham is depictive of what God requires of us. Be willing to do whatever the Lord says.
Life Application: With the understanding that God will never lead you down the wrong path, learn to trust God completely so that you will get to the place where you are willing to do whatever the Lord says.
Prayer: Lord, I say yes to your will and your way. You know best and I know that your thoughts towards me are always good. So I will trust you with my whole heart and being. In Jesus’ name, amen.
