Luke 10:38-39 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.

It is undeniable that God still speaks; to hear Him speak we must put ourselves at the place to hear His words. When Mary Magdalene wanted to hear the words of Jesus; look at what the scripture said she did in Luke 10:39. She went and sat at the feet of Jesus. In other words, she put herself at the place where she could hear Him speak. Martha was at the same location but she did not hear the words of Jesus. Why?She was not at the place where she could hear because she was preoccupied with house chores.

What is keeping you from hearing the words of Jesus? The main difference between Mary Magdalene and Martha is that Mary had a deep love for hearing the word of God. It was not that Mary did not have anything else to do why she sat at the feet of Jesus. She may have had house chores as well or some other matter than she needed to attend to, but she seized the opportunity to sit at the feet of Jesus. It is necessary that we develop a passion to hear the word of God. It is that passion that will propel us to take time out of our busy schedule to sit at the feet of Jesus.

It is important for us to hear the words of Jesus. St John 10:27 says “my sheep hear my voice”. He can only be a shepherd to us and we be His sheep, if we are at the place where we are hearing His voice. If we do not put ourselves at the place where we can hear his words, how else can he be our shepherd?

Life Application: Put yourself at the place to hear God speak by setting aside time to sit at the feet of Jesus. To sit at the feet of Jesus Mary Magdalene moved closer to Him and when she got close enough, she sat in His presence.

Prayer: Lord, position me in the place where I can hear from you. May I desire your presence more than anything else. Speak Lord and reveal your thoughts and desires for me to hear. In Jesus’ name, amen.
