Genesis 22:2 And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.
What is it that the Lord has been asking you to do or sacrifice? If you carry out the sacrifice that God requires of you, He will respond by doing what you want Him to do or what He has promised. Be reminded that throughout the scriptures, it never happened once that God demanded a sacrifice from someone, and they carried it out without him fulfilling His side of the bargain. In 2 Samuel 24, when David erred in taking a census of the people, a pestilence was upon the Land. For it to cease, God told David to sacrifice a burnt offering unto Him at the threshing floor of Araunah. David did accordingly and 2 Samuel 24:25 tells us that when he did “the plague was stayed from Israel”. God fulfilled his end of the bargain.
The same thing happened with the widow of Zarephath; she was required by God to make a sacrifice by giving to Elijah the last of the food that she had prepared for herself and her son. Because she did it, thereafter she had enough food to feed herself, Elijah and her son throughout the time of famine. God kept His end of the bargain.
God will do whatever it takes to fulfil His end of the bargain. It is for that reason Matthew 5:18 says, “till heaven and earth pass away, not one jot or one tittle shall in any wise pass from the law till all be fulfilled”. What the scripture indicates is that God takes his promises so seriously that he would rather let heaven and earth cease to exist than not fulfil His end of the bargain. Given that context, our approach to a sacrifice that God requires of us should be that of doing all that is possible to get it done. In Genesis 26, when God told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, his only son, it was not that he wanted to do it; his mindset was to do whatever it took to carry out what God said, because he knew God will do what he had promised. Since you know that God will fulfil his end of the bargain, make a sacrifice to do what he is asking you to do.
Life Application: Make a sacrifice to do what God requires of you by willingly letting go of things that you hold dear to you in an effort to please God.
Prayer: Lord, give me the willpower to sacrifice all for you and your kingdom. May I seek to please you in all that I do and say. In Jesus’ name, amen.
