Genesis 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
When you are going through the darkest days of your life; it is typical to feel like you are all alone, but know that God is with you. Genesis 1:2 tells us that “the earth was without form and void and darkness was upon the face of the deep”,and the Spirit of God hovered over the face of the waters. What the scripture was telling us was that amid what was disorder, nothingness and darkness, God was there. We know that God was there because His Spirit hovered nearby. What we can take away from this scripture is that when we are going through our difficult situations God is also there. Psalms 46:1 tells us that He is a present help in the time of trouble; that means He is always present in the time of trouble. When the Syrians surrounded the dwelling place of Elisha, God was there such that Elisha testified in 2 Kings 6:16 that there were more for them than they who were against them.
God is a present help in time of trouble not only to be our companion, but also to transform the situation. In creation the earth was dark, void and darkness was there. But, God did not leave it as he saw it; he transformed the earth to be what it is today. Similarly, when the three (3) Hebrew boys were thrown in the fire, not only was God with them in the fire, He also transformed the situation. Two things happened after they were delivered from the fire: Nebuchadnezzar promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and decreed that if anyone spoke against their God, they should be cut in pieces. Let it be a reminder that God will turn your situation around if you allow Him to take control.
Life Application: Look to God to bring healing and transformation to your situation through prayer and application of His principles and instructions.
Prayer: Lord, I lift up my eyes to you from which my help comes. Thank you for being a present help in times of trouble. In Jesus’ name, amen.
