Philippians 3:8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
Going all out for Jesus is pursuing Him and the things that pertain to Him at all cost. Paul went all out for Jesus. In Philippians 3:8 he confirmed this truth when he said “I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ”. What were some of those things that Paul gave up for God? Paul was a Pharisee; that meant that he was among the religious leaders of the day and very learned in the scriptures. So some of the things that Paul gave up to do the work of the Lord were: a high position in society; sure income; and, quality time with friends and family. In addition, given the attacks that were levied against him, he would have also given up his own safety and security. It is hard to find a better example of someone who went all out for God.
To go all out for God, in the same way that Paul did, will require a new mindset. One mindset change that Paul had is that of putting God first; that is evident by him saying “ all things I count but loss”. What Paul was saying was that he chose Jesus above everything else to include: his money, previous high positions in society, health and security. Acquire the mindset of putting God first.
The second mindset change that is needed to go all out for God is a willingness to endure unpleasant circumstances. It was the expectation of Paul that by choosing Christ, he would have to endure unpleasant situations. He stated this expectation when he said in Philippians 3:10 “that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings”. The scripture emphasized that Paul was not only expecting the good stuff, he also anticipated facing unpleasant circumstances such as “suffering” but was willing to endure it. Possess the mindset where you are willing to give up your comfort for the sake of Christ.
Life Application: Go all out for Christ by putting Christ first and be willing to give up your comfort for his sake.
Prayer: Lord, I will go all out for you even when it is unpleasant and painful. Help me to always remember that nothing trumps pleasing you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
