Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
You need strength to overcome; without strength there is no victory. Strength is important because the enemy and his agents wage war against us daily and because they are spirit beings, they have greater strength and power than we possess on our own. The only way to counteract their efforts is to be strong in the Lord every day. It is with that understanding Paul told the church at Ephesus to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. He expected them to make it a daily affair. To be strong in the Lord every day we must obey His words and invest quality time in His presence daily through prayer and worship. We are in overcomers’ territory when we are strong in the power of His might, but for that to happen we must first be strong in the Lord by maintaining a strong relationship with him daily.
Consistency is required to be strong in the Lord every day. It does not serve our purpose well if some days we are strong in the Lord and other days we are not. To understand why, consider for a moment the battle the Children of Israel had to fight against the Amalekites in Exodus 17:11-13. The scripture tells us that when Moses lifted his hands the Israelites prevailed, but when his hands grew tired and came down, the enemy advanced. It is something similar that happens in the spiritual realm in our lives. The days that we are strong in the Lord are days that we are positioned to advance against the enemy, but those days that we are not strong become an opportunity for the enemy to take ground from us. From that perspective it is easy to see why consistency is important. It is pointless to gain ground only to lose it again, Although Moses was a great man, he could not do it by himself, so he sought the assistance of Aaron and Hur and the Israelites had the victory. Soliciting the help of others to ensure that you stay consistent may be what is needed to get you where you want to go. Make being strong in the Lord a daily affair.
Life Application: Be strong in the Lord every day by pursuing obedience at all costs and set aside time to seek God’s face through prayer and worship.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for your daily strength. I rely completely on your strength alone. Thank you for lifting me when I’m weak. In Jesus’ name, amen.
