Joel 2:23 Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.
Unlock the rain that God has promised by turning to God with all your heart. In Joel 1 & 2, the Children of Israel were going through a time of famine caused by a combination of two problems: drought and crops being eaten up by locusts, cankerworm, palmerworm and caterpillar. Despite what they were facing, it was God’s will that they experience an abundance of rain and with that would come restoration and financial and spiritual abundance. Accordingly, God told them in Joel 2:23 that the former rain and latter rain would come down in the first month. Typically the former rain happens in autumn and the latter rain in spring, but here God said both would occur in the first month. What God was communicating to them was that the rain that he would bring would come in abundance and He would do it without hesitation. However, the promise of rain was preceded by a call from God to turn to Him with all their heart. What that tells us is that the abundance of rain will come when we meet God’s requirements.
There are two (2) promises of abundance of rain that are recorded in the scriptures and in both cases it was preceded by a call for the people to turn to God with all their hearts. In the first instance, recorded in 1 Kings 18, the people experienced an abundance of rain when they turned to God on Mount Carmel. On the other occasion, in Joel 2:13, God told the people of Israel to turn to Him with all their heart and thereafter they could expect an outpouring of rain. From these two examples there should be no doubt that the rain that God has promised will come down when we turn to God with all of our heart. Do what God requires and let it rain in your life.
Life Application: Receive the rain that God has promised by totally surrendering to Him and turning to Him with all your heart evidenced by doing what His word says.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for the abundance of rain. I turn my heart completely to you as I walk in obedience to your word. In Jesus’ name, amen.
