Psalm 113:3 From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord’s name is to be praised.

Sometimes we accord praise to people who are not deserving of it. We do it nonetheless either because they are expecting to be praised or because we know it is something they would appreciate. In comparison, God is always worthy of whatever praise that we may offer unto Him. In recognition of this truth Psalms 113:3 acknowledge that whatever the time of day or the prevailing season of our lives, God’s name is worthy to be praised.

The Psalmist gave four (4) reasons for his conclusion. The first is that God’s greatness far exceeds that of anything or anyone. In alluding to this he said “The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens.” It does not matter how great we think a nation is or any person may be, God’s greatness is much greater.

The second reason God is worthy to be praised is because there is none like Him. In making that point the scripture said, “who is like unto the Lord our God, who dwelleth on high”. We already know that His greatness is incomparable, but so also is His nature. There is none as loving, none as merciful, none as gracious and none as holy as our God.

The third reason He is worthy is His humility. Although He is God, He does not act as if he is better than anyone else. That was most evident when Jesus walked the earth; he acted with total humility. The same cannot be said of most who are in authority.

The fourth reason given why the Psalmist said God was worthy was because he promotes even the poor and needy. The scripture says, “He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill.” Across the world the better opportunities typically go towards those who are better off; but God does not ignore the poor and needy, he lifts them up.

If you think about the nature of God and His greatness, it should instantly propel you to give Him praise, that alone is enough evidence that He is worthy of praise.

Life Application: Show God that He is worthy of your praise by choosing to praise him regardless of what is happening in your life.

Prayer: Lord, you are such a good God. You are worthy of all the praise and adoration. You are awesome, wonderful and marvelous in all your ways. In Jesus’ name, amen.
