It is not What Man Says, it is What God Says

Daily Devotional

Jeremiah 29:10-11 For thus saith the Lord, that after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

No Man has any power over the course of your life, so it is not what they say, it is what God says. Remember that Pharaoh said no to the Children of Israel leaving Egypt, but that never stopped them from walking out. What happened was what God said. The people of Judah did not fully grasp the idea that it is not what man says, so they were retaught the principle by God in Jeremiah 29:10-11. At the time they were led away captives to Babylon and the false prophets were promising a quick return to the land of Judah.  However, that is not what God was saying. God told them about his verdict on the matter that they would spend 70 years in Babylon. It would not be a quick return as they were told. In addition, God said to them “I know the thoughts that I have towards you”. What God was communicating to them is that it is what he says that would stand, not what man says. Man will always have their own perspective, but if that perspective is not aligned to the word of God, then it is vain.

It is important that we understand what God is saying about our situation so that we can align ourselves to that. The people of Judah were inclined to believe what the false prophets were saying, so it was their intent to line up their actions to what they had said. God instructed them to build houses, plant vineyards, marry wives and beget children. What God was telling them to do was to  align themselves to his words. Since they were going to be in Babylon, the approach God wanted them to take was to make the best of their difficult situation. Never forget that what is most important for your life is what God is saying about your situation right now. Earnestly, seek to understand His plan and purpose for your life and move in that direction.

Life Application: Seek God diligently to understand God’s plan and purpose for your life and take steps to align yourself to what He is saying.

Prayer: Lord, help me to focus on you and your word and not what others are saying, especially if what is being said is contrary to your word. I will align myself to what you are saying and follow your directions. In Jesus’ name, amen.
