2 Chronicles 5:14 So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God.
A fascinating scripture in the Bible is 2 Chronicles 5:14; it tells us that the priests could not stand to minister because the glory of the Lord filled the house of God. That is certainly an experience that we all would want to have repeatedly. What did they do to help produce that result? The preceding scriptures identified four (4) things that they did to enable the glory of the Lord filling the house. The first thing that they did was to practice holiness, verses 11 and 12, tell us that the priests were sanctified and the “Levites”, who were the singers, were in “white linen”. Being sanctified and dressed in white linen represents holiness. Psalms 145:18 tells us that the Lord is near to them that call upon him in truth. Holiness draws God closer to us.
The second thing that was observed was that they aligned themselves to purpose; the scripture noted that the singers had cymbals and psalteries and harps, and one hundred and twenty priests blew the trumpet. Everyman was in position to do what God called them to do. We are guaranteed to have God with us when we are doing His will.
The third thing that was observed about the gathering was that they were on one accord. Verse 13 says that “the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord.” Take note that it was the same oneness that preceded the Holy Ghost falling on the disciples on the day of Pentecost.
Finally, they experienced the glory of God by giving God high praises. They were not just going through the motions or trying to fill slots in the programme, they gave God their best praise by lifting their voices along with the trumpets, cymbals and other musical instruments. Psalms 22;3 tells us that God inhabits the praises of His people. By practicing the same principles, when we gather for worship, we too, can experience the glory of God. Why would God do it for them and not do it for us?
Life Application: Let God’s glory fill the House of the Lord by practicing holiness, aligning yourself to God’s purpose for your life, being on one accord; and, offering God high praise.
Prayer: Lord, May your glory fill my house and life. I will do what you require on a daily basis to ensure that your glory remains with me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
