Colossians 3:17 – And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

The most that will happen if we use the name of a famous person is that we will get access to things and places that we did not previously have. Compare that to what happens when the name of Jesus is used. In the Bible several things happened when the name of Jesus was used. In Acts 3:6, the lame man at the gate, beautiful, was able to walk. The girl with the spirit of divination in Acts 16:18 was set free from that spirit by Paul by using the name of Jesus.  Jesus also told His disciples in John 15:16 that whatsoever they asked the Father in His name, He would give it to them. These are only some of the things that happen when we use the name of Jesus. What is so significant about the name of Jesus? No other name when used creates this level of impact.

What differentiates the name of Jesus from every other is that it has power. The name of other people may give you access, but the name of Jesus has power and authority. Philippians 2:10 confirms this when it says that every knee should bow at the name of Jesus. What that means is that everything: demons, sickness and situations included are subject to the name of Jesus. The name of Jesus has power and authority over them. It is for this reason that when Paul and Peter used the name of Jesus by faith and under the power of the anointing the lame man was made whole, and the girl was delivered. The name of Jesus has power and authority, so they had to respond to the name of Jesus. Not only does the name of Jesus have power, but using it also gives us favor with the Father for answered prayers. Given the power and access that is locked up in the name of Jesus, our response to life should be that of Colossians 3:17 do all in the name of Jesus. What that means is that we should use the name of Jesus, not only when we pray, but also in ministry and every situation that we are confronted with. Help to change your situation by using the name of Jesus in every circumstance that you face.

Life Application: Make it a habit to use the name of Jesus, not only when you pray but also speak the name of Jesus over your situation and command it to change.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for giving us power through your son Jesus Christ. When we call the name of Jesus, you have given us power over sickness, oppression and everything that comes against us. Thank you Jesus for the power of your name. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
