Ezekiel 22:30-31 And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I recompensed upon their heads, saith the Lord God.

Do not just accept what you see happening in your location, instead purpose in your heart to stand in the gap for your community, church and nation. Choosing to do so could prevent sudden destruction and create a turnaround. Samuel decided to intercede for the Israelites in 1 Samuel 7 and God thundered against the Philistines who had come against them and their oppression was broken.

One man standing in the gap can make a difference. In Ezekiel 22, God revealed to Ezekiel several practices that took place in Judah that displeased Him. The evil perpetuated because God sought for a man to stand in the gap for the land,so that He would not destroy it, but could not find any. As a result the wrath of God was poured out on Judah. Consider what would have happened, if even one man or woman had taken up the mantle to continually intercede for the nation, there would have been a change. The people would have turned from their wicked ways and that would have prevented the destruction of Jerusalem and the people being taken captive by the Babylonians. You do not need an army to create change in your environment through intercession, it takes one man or woman making himself available. James 5:16 says “the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” The scripture specifically said “a righteous man” to show that one person standing in the gap can help to change things.

Rather than complain about or accept what is happening around you, be that one to stand in the gap.

Life Application: Be that one to stand in gap for your family, community, church and nation by continually interceding for them by praying in the Spirit and praying His will or what you hear Him saying.

Prayer: Lord, here I am. I will stand in the gap for those around me. I pray for this world and my community that they will turn to you and seek your face. May your kingdom come and your will be done. In Jesus’ name, amen.
