Make it Your Goal to Be More Consistent

Daily Devotional

John 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

One of the greatest struggles that we have as believers is that of being consistent: we often fluctuate in our relationship with God. Sometimes we are on a spiritual high and at other times not. How can we be more consistent in our relationship with God? Joshua was consistent in seeking God: Exodus 33:11 said that he never departed from the temple. He consistently stayed in the presence of God. Moses’ life was also marked by consistency. The testimony of Moses that was repeated throughout the  scripture was similar to that of Exodus 40:16 where it said that Moses did according to all that the LORD commanded him. He was consistent in doing what the word of God says. If Joshua and Moses could have been consistent, so can we be in like manner.

Jesus challenged His disciples to be consistent in their walk with God in John 15:4. While He never specifically told them how to be consistent, He gave them two objectives that they were required to make their top priority – abide in Him; and, let His words abide in them. Being more consistent in our relationship with God  begins with making it our top priority every day to abide in Him and to let His word abide in us. Whatever we make our priority will occupy our focus and what we focus on is what we will do. Do not let the affairs of this life cause you to alter what you make your priority from day to day, that is a major cause of inconsistency.

Life Application: Realize your goal of being more consistent by making it your top priority everyday to live in God’s presence and to do what his word says.

Prayer: Lord, I must confess that I’m not consistent. Help me to be consistent in my walk with you and to remain in your presence daily even when all is not well. In Jesus’ name, amen.
