Jeremiah 2:11 Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.
Do not exchange God’s glory for things that are far less profitable. Every time that we give greater priority to other things than abiding in His presence, we are choosing something less over something that is greater. Not only does the glory of God release a joy that is unmatched, there are several other things that come with the glory of God. The glory of God gives us power; the glory of God brings answered prayers; the glory of God protects; the glory of God heals; the glory of God saves; the glory of God delivers. Is there anything or anyone that can do all these and more? The answer is obvious. Whether it is in our lives individually or as it relates to our worship services, let us prioritize the glory of God.
The Children of Israel made the mistake of putting other things above the glory of God and they lost their hedge of protection, and the end result was that they ended up being captives in Babylon. It was an unprofitable decision. In drawing attention to this situation God said in Jeremiah 2:11, “my people changed their glory for that which doth not profit”. While we may not go as far as the Israelites went by worshiping idols, how many times have we given up God’s glory for things that do not profit? We do that every time that we fail to spend quality time in prayer. We also do the same when we ignore his whispers and do our own thing. The truth is that there is nothing in this world that is worth giving up God’s glory, so stay in His presence.
Life Application: Refuse to exchange God’s glory for anything else by making it your priority and schedule times to meet with Him in prayer and worship.
Prayer: Lord, nothing compares to your glory and I will not trade it for anything in this word. Keep me in your presence Lord and surround me with your glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
