Follow God’s Prescription

Daily Devotional

John 2:5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

When we go to the doctor with a health problem and they give us a prescription, in most cases we will follow it. More important than following the prescription of any doctor, is following God’s prescription. While a doctor may make a wrong diagnosis and thereby prescribe medications that may make the situation worse, God will not make any mistakes. He is all knowing so his diagnosis cannot be faulty and His prescription always works.

There was a problem at the wedding at Cana in John 2. They ran out of wine before the wedding celebration had concluded. Mary who was present did two things that we should emulate. Her first step in addressing the problem was to bring it to the attention of Jesus.

Secondly, she told the servants that whatever Jesus said unto them they should do it. The essence of what Mary told them was to follow Jesus’s prescription. The prescription given to them by Jesus did not seem to make sense initially. They needed wine but Jesus told them to fill the vessels with water to the brim and then draw from the vessels and give it to the governor of the feast to drink. When the governor of the wedding tasted it he told the bridegroom that he had left the best wine for last. What that proves is that, not only does God’s prescription works, but it is also better than any man made solution that we may have received.

God’s prescription comes in the form of his laws, principles and instructions. If we follow them we can be assured that they will turn situations around.

Life Application: Follow God’s prescription by bringing your problems to His attention and then apply his laws, principles or instructions to the situations.

Prayer: Lord, I will follow your laws and principles to ensure that I live the way you want me to. Guide me in all truths. In Jesus’ name, amen.
