Seek First the Kingdom of God

Daily Devotional

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

It was not a mere coincidence why the scripture said seek ye first the Kingdom of God. To seek first the Kingdom of God is to seek first the Holy Spirit or His presence. Not seeking His Kingdom first is tantamount to trying to do it without God. We must seek Him

first to get His involvement in everything that we are doing from the very beginning. Sometimes we make the mistake of starting what we are doing and then when we get stuck,  it is only then that we seek His participation. It should never be like that. It will save us some heartaches if we choose to involve Him from the beginning. Let us make a conscious decision, as of today, to seek first the Holy Spirit.

Another reason we must seek first the Holy Spirit is because He teaches us righteousness by pricking our conscience when we step out of the will of God.  Additionally, He also reveals truth unto us; John 16:13 says that He leads us into all truth. Before we can fully walk in righteousness, we must first know the truth and it is the Holy Spirit who reveals that unto us. Furthermore, we should never forget that it is the Holy Spirit who gives us the power to live righteously.  In every facet of our lives  we need the Holy Spirit. But, the point that is being made is that even to fulfill the second part of the scripture “seeking His righteousness” we need the Holy Spirit so we must make it our priority to seek Him first.

Life Application: Seek first the Kingdom by setting aside time to seek after His presence and making a conscious decision to involve God before you start your pursuit of any endeavor.

Prayer: Lord, early will I seek you in all things. May I never leave you out of anything I am doing. In Jesus’ name, amen.
