What You Sow is What You Will Reap

Daily Devotional

Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

According to Dr. Mike Murdock there are 58 different types of blessings that are recorded in the Bible. We all would want all 58 blessings to manifest into our lives, but are we willing to do what is needed to get them? Deuteronomy 28:1 tells us that if we hearken to the word of God then all the blessings of the Lord will come upon us. What the scripture is saying is that it is by sowing the word of God  into our lives that we will see the blessings we want to see. It is important to note however, that the harvest or blessings that we receive from honoring a particular law or principle may differ from what is received from applying another. For instance based on Proverbs 21:5, the reward for diligence or operating with excellence is increase and abundance.  While based on Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, the blessings associated with partnering with like minded people are a good reward for labor as well as protection and support. We must ensure that the result we are expecting is consistent with the seeds we are sowing.

In Hosea 4, the Israelites, like everybody else, wanted the blessings but what they were reaping were iniquity, lies, injustice, famine, and being oppressed by their enemies. The reason those were the results they were seeing was because they were sowing seeds of wickedness. They were sowing bad but wanted to reap good and that is not consistent with the word of God. Galatians 6:7 says, whatsoever a man sow that is what he will reap. Thinking otherwise is allowing yourself to be deceived and believing that God would actually allow himself to be mocked for doing contrary to what his word said. Expect to reap what you have sown, God will not do otherwise.

Life Application: Reap the outcome of what you want to see by applying the laws and principles of God to your life.

Prayer: Lord, help me to sow the right seeds to receive the rewards you have declared in your word. In Jesus’ name, amen.
