Get the Fundamentals Right
Exodus 40:16 Thus did Moses: according to all that the Lord commanded him, so did he.
Hard work is good, but that alone will not give you the results you want to see in 2023. It will come by getting the fundamentals right. Getting the fundamentals right involves adhering to biblical laws and principles and quickly carrying out divine instructions. The great success that Abraham was able to attain was because he got the fundamentals right. He learnt quickly that the key to a successful life is to live by the word of God. Therefore, his life was characterized by promptly following every instruction that was given by God and acting in accordance with his laws and principles. Abraham was not the only one who this approach worked for, there are also other notable examples. After spending 40 years in the wilderness, Moses saw a dramatic turnaround in his life to the extent that he is still esteemed today as the greatest leader that Israel had ever seen. What accounted for his change in fortunes? Exodus 40:16 gave us insight into that. In the aftermath of the burning bush experience, he consistently did all that the Lord commanded him to do. When we sow the laws and principles of God into our lives, we will reap his promises.
There are two (2) things that we must do in order to get the fundamentals right. The first is to become familiar with the laws and principles of God. Hosea 4:6 says, “my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”. According to Judges 2, a generation of the Israelites grew up not knowing God and His words and they soon found themselves oppressed by the enemy. They failed to get the fundamentals right because they were not familiar with the word of God.
The second thing that is required to get the fundamentals right is that we must elevate the laws and principles of God above everything else in our world. Job 23:12 says “I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food”. To consistently execute the word of God we must make it our priority. In Genesis 22 when God told Abraham to sacrifice his son, he arose and did it first. That is one way that we prioritize the word of God. Leaving the word of God for last could result in it not getting done. Get the fundamentals right by doing the word of God first.
Life Application: Get the Fundamentals right by studying the word of God for at least 10 minutes daily and with the help of the Holy Spirit write down ways in which you can apply what you have learnt to your life. In addition, make time to quickly carry out every divine instruction.
Prayer: Lord, as we navigate the different areas of our lives this year, teach us your laws and principles that we may carry them out as you have designed. Help us to honor your word in all our ways. In Jesus’ name, amen.
