21 Habits For Uncommon Success in 2023: Part 8

Daily Devotional

Practice Victory Talk

1 Samuel 17:46 This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.

Start talking about victory even before it becomes your reality. David never waited until he defeated Goliath to speak victoriously. Even before the encounter, he told Goliath in 1 Samuel 17:46 that God would deliver him into his hand and that he would smite him and cut off his head. Needless to say that it went down exactly how David said it would happen. Proverbs 18:21 says “death and life are in the power of the tongue”. David spoke of victory and he got the victory. What you use your mouth to speak will determine what manifests in your life.

The Shunammite woman followed David’s example and got a similar result. Even though her son was dead, when she was asked about his well being by Elijah’s servant in 2 Kings 4:26, she responded by saying “it is well”. The death of her son was staring her straight in the face, but never once did death come out of her mouth. Instead, she spoke of victory by saying what she wanted to see, not what obtained.

Another thing that should be noted about the response of the Shunammite woman was that she spoke in the present tense as if it was already done, even though at that point her son was dead.  She said, “it is well” and not “it is going to be well”. She had great expectations that her son would live and so she spoke those things that were not as though they were. How the woman spoke is consistent to how Joel 3:10 says we should practice victory talk. It says, “let the weak say that I am strong”. One takeaway from the scripture is not to allow your current circumstances to dictate how you speak. Even though you might be weak, sick or poor right now, talk as if you are strong, healed or wealthy.

By practicing victory talk and taking the commensurate action, the victory that you want to see in 2023 will come.  The reason it works is that what you repeatedly speak is what you will believe and what you believe is what you will do and what you do is what will manifest in your life.

Life Application: Practice victory talk by repeatedly speaking what you want to see as if it is already done at least twice each day.

Prayer: Lord, I declare that all is well in every aspect of my life. I have an overflow of abundance in my finances. I am healed. I have favor with man and God. Whatever I speak will come to pass. In Jesus’ name, amen.
