21 Habits For Uncommon Success in 2023: Part 9

Act Like You Already Have What You Want

1 Samuel 1:18-19 And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.19 And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the Lord, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the Lord remembered her.

Turn your situation around by acting as if you already have what you want. Hannah used this principle, and everything changed for her. She desperately needed a change, after being barren for a while and being persistently mocked by Peninnah, the other wife of Elkanah. In her sadness, she went to the house of the Lord to pray. Recounting the situation 1 Samuel 1:10 said “she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore”. At the end of her prayer the Bible said that “her countenance was no more sad”. Her countenance changing was Hannah acting like she already had what she wanted. Remember she went to God being bitter and sad, but walked away being joyful. It was not that she had already conceived at that point. The situation had not changed but she operated as if it had changed. What happened here was that her response got the attention of God, and He did for her that which she desperately wanted for years. The scripture said that “Elkanah knew Hannah, his wife, and the Lord remembered her”. What is it that you have been wanting? Acting like you already have what you want is an act of faith that will bring it to pass.

Most of the notable miracles that Jesus did was based on the principle of acting as if it’s already done. In John 2 when the water was turned into wine, remember that it was water that was in the pitcher, but the servant acted as if it was wine by serving it to the governor of the feast, and it became wine. It is also seen in Matthew 14:19-21 when Jesus fed the 5,000 men plus women and children. They only had five (5) loaves and two (2) fishes, but they acted as if they had enough to feed the multitude and the little that they had multiplied. Recall also the man at the pool of Bethesda, before he was healed Jesus said to him rise and take up your bed and walk. That seems like an odd instruction, but Jesus was teaching him to act as if he already had what he wanted. He attempted it and immediately he was made whole. In the same way that acting as if they already had it brought miracles to these Bible characters, it will do the same for you.

Life Application: Act as if you already have what you want by feeling the joy that you would feel when what you want manifests. Additionally, even though you do not know how it will work out, take steps towards what you want to see.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the manifestation of what I have been praying for. Thank you for the overflow in my finances. Thank you for healing my body and mind. Thank you for a deeper and closer walk with you. Thank you for your joy and peace. In Jesus’ name, amen.
