21 Habits For Uncommon Success in 2023: Part 11

Increase Your Wisdom

Proverbs 4:7-8 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

The biggest contributor to your success in 2023 and beyond will be your wisdom, not your skill nor the amount of money you have, nor the people in high places that you know. The reason this is true is that even if you are the most talented in your field and you have all the money in the world and the backing of the greatest influencers, without wisdom you will still fail by making poor decisions. Samson was anointed and had great strength but lacked wisdom, evidenced by his choice of Delilah as companion, and it cost him dearly. It is why Proverbs 4:7 says wisdom is the principal thing. The presence of wisdom ensures that you make the right decision regardless of the circumstances that you are faced with. These good decisions will result in small wins daily, weekly or monthly that accumulate over time to ultimately create what you want to see. Since wisdom is critical to our success, we are implored by the scripture to get more wisdom; in so doing we must expand our knowledge and understanding, since they are the pillars on which wisdom is built.

There are two types of wisdom that we need more of: life wisdom and specialized wisdom. Life wisdom is what is needed to make good life choices, the primary source of this wisdom should be the word of God. Deuteronomy 4:4 says that the word of God is our wisdom. Get more life wisdom by learning and applying biblical principles when making good life choices.

Specialized wisdom is related to a specific field; to acquire this wisdom we must read books, attend seminars, enroll in courses or open ourselves to be coached or mentored. Getting more wisdom will require us to “exalt her” as the scripture puts it. Practically, that means we will have to attach a greater value to wisdom than other things in our lives. If you choose to do this, two things will happen according to Proverbs 4:8: you will be promoted and accorded with great honor. Joseph’s wisdom did not only bring him a promotion, it also brought him honor. Aggressively grow your wisdom and experience uncommon success in 2023.

Life Application: Aggressively grow your wisdom by seeking divine direction, investing at least 30 minutes daily growing your wisdom and establishing a group consisting of 3 or more of the wisest people in your environment that you will ask their opinion prior to any major decision.

Prayer: Lord, increase my wisdom and May I use it the way you have designed. In Jesus name, amen.
