21 Habits For Uncommon Success in 2023: Part 12

Daily Devotional

Connect with Dream Builders in Your Environment

1 Samuel 23:16-17 And Jonathan Saul’s son arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God. And he said unto him, Fear not: for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee; and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next unto thee; and that also Saul my father know

It was never God’s design for you to realize your dream by yourself. There are people who He has strategically placed in your environment to help you get to where He wants you to be. You must invest time to identify and connect with these persons; they are your dream builders. Let’s look at some examples. Joseph needed the butler to get to Pharaoh’s palace. It was necessary for Ruth to connect with Naomi for her to become the wife of Boaz, one of the wealthiest men in Bethlehem at the time. Consider also Esther, it was unfortunate that her parents died, but connecting with Mordecai, her uncle, was instrumental to her becoming queen of Shushan. You are only one person away from your dream; connect with them to make it a reality.

While connecting with dream builders is important to your success, it is also critical that you avoid the dream killers. Take note that both Saul and Jonathan were in David’s environment, yet one was a dream builder and the other a dream killer. David had no choice but to stay far from the dream killer. How do you differentiate between the dream builder and dream killer? Do so by looking at what people do, not what they say. Proverbs 20:11 says, “even a child is known by his doings”. It was Saul’s action that allowed David to know that he was a dream killer.  There are three (3) things that you can use to identify a dream builder. Dream builders strengthen and encourage you without being prompted. In 1 Samuel 23:16 while David was in his wilderness situation hiding from Saul, Jonathan went to him without being prompted and strengthened and encouraged David.

Another trait of dream builders is that they see the purpose in you, even when others don’t see it. When Jonathan met with David, he told him that he would be the next king of Israel. Although the situation did not look like it at the time, he saw purpose in David and spoke accordingly.

Finally, look for people who will put your best interest above theirs. One of the reasons Saul wanted to kill David was because he wanted Jonathan to be king, he willingly sacrificed his interest for that of David’s.

Investing time to connect with dream builders will move you towards your dream much faster. Ecclesiastes 4:9 says, “two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labour”. What the scripture is saying is that when you connect and work with likeminded people or dream builders you will realize a greater return for the same amount of effort, than if you attempted to do it by yourself. It is only one reason you must carry this habit throughout 2023 and this is for greater levels of success.

Life Application: Invest time to deepen relationships with dream builders who are already in your circle and network to identify new people with whom you can establish mutually beneficial relationships.

Prayer: Lord, surround me with the right people, those whom you have destined to be dream builders in my life. Reveal those who are dream killers and remove them from my environment. In Jesus’ name, amen.
