Ask God to Teach You What to Do

Daily Devotional

Exodus 4:15 And thou shalt speak unto him and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.

Successfully pursue your purpose by allowing God to teach you what to do. When God called Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, he was being asked to do something that he had never done before. Consequently, he was uncertain what he would be required to do and say when he reached that environment. Considering that, Moses started to make excuses that suggested that he did not want to do what God called him to do, but the real issue, although he never said it, was that he did not know what to do or say, and that caused him to feel fearful and uncomfortable. Recognizing what the real problem was. God responded to Moses in Exodus 4:15 by assuring him of two things: that he would be with his mouth or guide his speech; and teach him what to do. The message that we should gather from that is that we do not have to be afraid to walk into God’s will for our lives, because we serve a God who is all wise and all knowing that we can depend on to teach us what to do and say. He did it for Moses and Aaron during their sojourn in Egypt and it turned out to be a great success.

As it relates to fulfilling your purpose, you might not know what to do, but God knows. Because He knows, rather than respond with fear and trepidation, ask God to show you what to do. James 1:5 says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him”. The essence of what the scripture is saying is that when we don’t know what to do, we should ask God. Asking God to teach you what to do is a mark of humility? God will respond to that act of humility by freely imparting His wisdom without withholding anything.  Get the wisdom that you need to successfully complete your purpose by asking God.

Life Application:  Make a list of the areas in which there are gaps in your knowledge as to how to fulfill your purpose or walk into your promise and ask God to teach you what to do.

Prayer: Lord, teach me what to do daily. May I never feel like I am alone in any situation knowing that you are always there to guide me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
