Numbers 10:10 Also in the day of your gladness, and in your solemn days, and in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; that they may be to you for a memorial before your God: I am the Lord your God.
Go beyond ordinary worship to give God a worship that creates a lasting memory in His mind. In Numbers 10:10 God instructed the Israelites to blow with the trumpets over their burnt offerings and sacrificial peace offering. What was the message that God was communicating by giving them this instruction? He was letting them know that He wanted more than ordinary or ritualistic worship. To give Him the type of worship He wanted, they needed to cultivate an atmosphere of praise and worship with the trumpets while carrying out their spiritual habits. By taking that approach, the scripture said that their offerings would be as a memorial before God. The takeaway from the scripture is that when we go beyond ordinary worship, we create a lasting memory in the mind of God.
Solomon and the people of Israel went beyond ordinary worship and created a lasting memory in the mind of God such that their actions were recorded in 2 Chronicles 5. The occasion was the feast of ingathering after the temple was built. To celebrate the occasion, sheep and oxen were sacrificed in multitude. However, rather than just go through the motions, they gathered the singers working together in unison with the one hundred and twenty (120) priests blowing the trumpets to create an atmosphere of sweet worship. It evidently pleased God, because in response the scripture said that the glory of the Lord filled the temple so that the priests could not stand to minister. We bring God pleasure when we create an atmosphere of praise and worship that takes us beyond the ordinary.
Life Application: Avoid giving God ordinary worship by spending time seeking his will before going into worship. In addition, rather than just go through the motion, create an atmosphere of praise and worship to entertain the presence of God.
Prayer: Lord, I vow to worship you in spirit and truth. May my worship be acceptable to you and come before you as a sweet smelling savor. In Jesus’ name, amen.
