Mark 6:54-56 And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him, And ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was. And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.
Although God’s presence brings great joy and pleasure; it is important that we recognize that when God shows up it is not just for us to have a feel-good moment; it should also be seen as an opportunity for us to get what we need from Him. Too many times we become content with the fact that His presence is among us and miss what He has for us in that moment. Examine what happened when God showed up where Jacob was in Genesis 32; he was determined to get what he needed. To that end he wrestled with the angel all night and declared I will not let thee go until thou bless me. Jacob got what he needed then: not only did God bless him, but He also changed his name from Jacob to Israel. What if he had behaved cute or just settled for God showing up? He would have missed out on all of that.
When God shows up, it is either to meet a spiritual or physical need. In Mark 6: 53-56 when Jesus stepped out of the ship in the land of Gennesaret and the people of that place recognized that it was Jesus, they ran throughout the whole region to gather together those who were sick and brought them to Jesus for him to heal them. Jesus never told them to do this, the people just knew that Jesus was there to meet their needs and they would not allow the opportunity to pass them by. What was also interesting is that the people never waited for Jesus to touch them for them to get their healing, they instead requested that He allowed them to touch the hem of His garment and the scripture said that as many as touched him were made whole. When Jesus showed up the people seized the moment and got what they needed; be prepared to do likewise.
Life Application: Get what you need when Jesus shows up by seizing the moment and touching him by faith.
Prayer: Lord, I am always happy when I’m in your presence but I also know that it’s an opportunity to take my issues to you. Lord, make a way like only you can. In Jesus’ name, amen.
