Psalms 125:1 They that trust in the Lord shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth forever.
We are approaching a time in this world when we need God now more than ever. How we should choose to respond to the current tide is to anchor ourselves in God. When we hear the phrase “anchor yourselves in God”, quite likely the first thing that would have come to mind is to pray more and read the word of God. However, anchoring ourselves in God is more than that. It is to trust in God with all our heart. Psalms 125:1 tells us that “They that trust in the Lord shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be moved”. What the scripture is telling us is that when we trust in the Lord, we are anchored in God to the extent that nothing will be able to move us.
What does anchoring ourselves in God involve? Proverbs 3:5-9 identifies four components. The first component is to “lean not to your own understanding”. The implication is that to anchor ourselves in God we should base our decisions on the word of God, not on what we think.
The second component of anchoring ourselves in God is to acknowledge God in all our ways. That means we must seek His direction in everything that we endeavor to do.
The third component is not to be wise in our eyes. Being wise in our eyes is to depend on our own intellect or wisdom. Because we are prone to make mistakes, our wisdom will not keep us anchored, instead we will find ourselves falling.
The final component is to anchor our finances in God: this is done by “honoring the Lord with our substance and the first fruits of our increase”. Anchoring our finances in God keeps us from financial failure as Malachi 3:10-12 tells us that by doing so God will open the windows of heaven and shower us with His abundant blessings. In addition, He will keep the devourer from destroying our harvest.
Life Application: Anchor yourself in God by seeking His direction and use His word as a blueprint for your life. In addition, refuse to depend on your intellect and honor God with your finances.
Prayer: Lord, keep me anchored in you at all times. May I rely on your word and wisdom to guide my steps. In Jesus’ name, amen.
