Deuteronomy 2:7 For the Lord thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the Lord thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.
Psalms 23:1 suggests that when the Lord is our shepherd, we will lack nothing. Prior to that Moses gave the Israelites, in Deuteronomy 2:7 three (3) reasons why they went through the wilderness for forty years and lacked nothing. The first reason why they lacked nothing is because God blessed all the works of their hands. Critical to us lacking nothing is to attract the blessings of God in all that we do by adhering to His words and diligently following His instructions. Because the Israelites followed the words of the Lord, when they were leaving Egypt, the Egyptians gave them gold, silver and raiment. These were manifestations of God’s blessings.
Another factor that kept the Israelites from lacking nothing is that they allowed God to lead them every step of the way. The scripture alluded to that when it said “he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness”. The evidence of that was that the Israelites only moved when the cloud of the Spirit moved, and they only went in the direction of the Cloud. When we allow God to lead us every step of the way, He will lead us to His provision.
The last factor that was critical to the Israelites lacking nothing was that the Lord was with them. In making this point the scripture said: “these forty years the Lord thy God had been with thee”. God is Jehovah Jireh, which means the Lord will provide. It is not possible to always have the provider with you and lack anything. If we keep the provider close to us, it is not possible for us to miss his provision. Because God was with the Israelites, they were fed with manna everyday and when they needed water it was supplied. The experience of the Israelites is a blueprint for us as to how we can go through difficult circumstances and come out lacking nothing.
Life Application: The three (3) things that we must do to avoid lacking nothing during difficult times are to: adhere to His words; let Him lead us every step of the way; and, stay close to Him all along the journey.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for being an amazing provider. Help me to always adhere to your words as I continue on this journey you have set out for me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
