I Will Be With Thee

Daily Devotional

Isaiah 43:2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

Joshua 1:5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

The only time that we are guaranteed of victory is when God is with us. We often claim Isaiah 43:2 that when we walk through the waters it shall not overflow us and when we go through the fire it shall not burn us, but these are not guaranteed merely because we say we are Christians, they are our portion when God is with us.  Note that the scripture said “I will be with thee” that is the key part of the verse. Thereafter, the scripture used the word “and” to indicate that all that was to follow was contingent on the phrase “I will be with thee”.

To confirm that victory is guaranteed when God is with us, God told Joshua after he took over as leader of Israel, in Joshua 1:5, that no man will be able to stand before him all the days of thy life.  That was a great assurance. What God was telling Joshua was that throughout his reign as leader of Israel, he would never be defeated.  The reason that God gave him why that would be the case was “as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee”. God’s promise of consistent victory was linked to God being with him. There were two things that would ensue from God being with Joshua. To begin with God told him “I will not fail thee”; that means He would never let him down. Because God was with Joshua, he could depend on God to come through for him regardless of the situation that he faced.

The other benefit of God being with him was that God would never forsake him nor leave him alone.  The benefit of God never leaving him alone is that God will be a present help in the time of trouble.

It is not your experience nor education that will give you the victory, it is God being with you. Therefore, do whatever it takes to have God with you at all times.

Life Application:  Let God be with thee by choosing to stay connected to God and living by his words.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for always being with me. Help me to stay connected with you as I seek more of you everyday. In Jesus’ name, amen.
