2 Samuel 22: 26-28 With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful, and with the upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright. With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself unsavoury. And the afflicted people thou wilt save: but thine eyes are upon the haughty, that thou mayest bring them down.
What was being communicated by the scripture when it said with the merciful God would shew himself merciful and with the pure and upright, God will reveal himself as pure and upright? The message that is being sent is that what you sow is what you will reap. Therefore, we must ensure that we are sowing the right seeds.
There are three (3) things that we should note about sowing and reaping. The first is that money is not the only way that we sow into our environment; we can sow mercy, uprightness, purity, love, problem solving and much more. The implication is that there is nothing stopping us from sowing the right seeds.
The next thing to note is that the harvest comes from God: He determines the timing and magnitude. However, because our harvest is from God and He is faithful, we are sure to receive it, although it may be long in coming. David sowed the right seeds after he was anointed King and he got his harvest, although he had to wait more than ten (10) years. It was a picture of God’s faithfulness.
The final thing to note is that we must take stock of the seeds we are sowing; this is important because If you have not seen the harvest you want to see it could be because of two possible reasons. The first is that you are not sowing the right seeds. In that case you must align the seeds you are sowing to the harvest that you want to see. The other reason is that you could be sowing the right seeds, but it is not yet your time to reap. In that instance, do not stop doing what you are doing; the harvest will come. Galatians 6: 9 says “let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not”. Our responsibility as believers is to keep sowing the right seeds, let us never lose sight of that.
Life Application: Make sure that you are sowing the right seeds by matching the seeds you are sowing with what is required to produce the desired harvest.
Prayer: Lord, help me to sow the right seeds in order to receive a bountiful harvest. Help me to sow seeds of love, kindness, mercy and all that is necessary to help others grow. In Jesus’ name, amen.
