Speak to things in Your Environment to Work in Your Favour

Daily Devotional

Joshua 10: 12 Then spake Joshua to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.

In the same way that Joshua spoke to the sun and Jesus spoke to the wind and waves, you too have authority to speak to things around you that are not favouring you.

In Joshua 10, a total of ten (10) Kings together with their large armies had assembled against Gibeon, because they had made a treaty with the people of Israel.  Accordingly, the Gibeonites called Joshua and the people of Israel to come and help them. On their way, God told Joshua to fear them not: for he delivered them into his hand. That was confirmation that they were operating according to God’s will and purpose. During the battle, the Children of Israel were making great progress against the large army, but the going down of the sun threatened to hinder the completion of the work that they had started. As a result, Joshua spoke to God to let the sun stand still. God hearkened to him and the sun stood still for an entire 24 hours so that they were able to complete the demolition of the opposing forces.

There are three things in this story that are worthy of note. It was God who told Joshua to tell the sun to stand still. Why? Because he understood the authority that he had once he was operating in purpose. Recognize therefore, that once you are operating in purpose you have been empowered to go against the status quo and still win.  The second thing is that Joshua made the request for the sun to stand still in the hearing of all Israel; that signifies boldness and faith. When you ask God anything that is in his will, ask with boldness expecting him to do it. The third thing is that Joshua was unwilling to let even nature stop him from fulfilling purpose. For most of us, the sun going down would have been an acceptable obstacle, but not for Joshua, he was not going to allow it to stop him.  The forces of nature and other things in your environment may become obstacles, but like Joshua your response should not be to accept it as is, use the authority that you have been given to speak to the things in your environment to come into alignment with what you were called to do.

Life Application: Make it a habit every day to speak to nature and things in your environment, in the name of Jesus, to come in sync with God’s will for your life.

Prayer: Lord, I speak life over things that are dead in my life that shouldn’t be according to your will. I declare that I will use my mouth to declare life instead of death. In Jesus name, amen.
