Never Go into God’s Presence Empty-Handed

Daily Devotional

Matthew 9:18 While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.

Sometimes our minds are so focused on the problems before us that we end up going into the presence of God empty. If you go into the presence of God empty most likely you will leave empty. To get the result that you desire, go into God’s presence with your faith and your worship.

Don’t use your circumstances as an excuse to go into God’s presence empty, but rather use it as an opportunity to bring him your worship. It was observed in the scriptures that those who went to Jesus for their healing and deliverance, did not go empty handed, instead they brought him their worship. Matthew 8:2 tells us that when the leper came to him, he worshipped him and said “if thou wilt, thou can make me clean.” Similarly in Matthew 9:18 despite the anguish that Jairus was going through with his daughter being dead, when he came to Jesus for him to raise her from the dead, he started from a place of worship.  The Canaanite woman of Matthew 15:22, whose daughter was vexed with an evil spirit, also went to Jesus with a posture of worship referring to him as the son of David. By doing so, she was acknowledging and worshipping him as the Messiah. When Jesus responded to her to say he was only sent to the people of Israel that meant for her that being a Canaanite, she did not qualify. Nevertheless, she still continued with worship and said “Lord help me” and ultimately got the result she wanted. Use your worship as a tool (not the only tool) to create the outcome you want to see.

Don’t believe for one minute that the Bible characters referenced above were not dealing with a lot when they went to Jesus. Yes they were, but what propelled them to begin with worship was a belief that Jesus would come through on their behalf. With that expectation, they would not allow themselves to come to him empty handed.  Instead they chose to give Him what matters to Him the most, their worship. With that, their faith combined with their worship brought them the result they wanted to see.

Life Application: Worship is a lifestyle that Jesus said should be done in spirit and truth. Make worship your lifestyle by abiding in God’s presence and living by the truth or principles established in his word.

Prayer: Lord, I come to you in prayer with my worship and faith lifted high. I know that you love me beyond comprehension and so I can’t come to you empty handed. I pour out my all to you. In Jesus name, amen.
