God is With You; You Cannot Fail

Daily Devotional

Bible Verse:

Joshua 6:1-2 Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.2 And the Lord said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour.

If God is for you, who and what can stop you? History has shown that nothing can hinder what God has planned or promised. In Acts 12:3-9 the shut prison doors were not enough to keep Peter from coming out. God sent an angel and the prison doors flung open.

Even though the gates of Jericho were shut tight that could not stop the children of Israel from possessing their promise. When the people of Jericho heard about how the Lord had miraculously led the people of Israel across the Jordan River, they were overcome with fear and shut up the gates of the city. With the gates shut and the walls thick and seemingly impenetrable, the natural response of Joshua and the Israelites should have been that of fear and doubt as to whether victory at Jericho would ever happen. God did not allow that thought to linger. He instantly gave Joshua a new perspective on the situation.

In referring to Jericho being shut up, God said to Joshua “see, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour.” What God was saying to Joshua was that the shut gates were evidence of victory, not defeat. There were two reasons that was the right perspective. First, nothing is impossible with God; and, secondly, the shut gates were an indication that the people of Jericho were fearful and by being fearful they were sure to lose.

Our typical response to shut doors is that of disappointment and feelings of defeat, but it is time to garner a new perspective. When God is for you, nothing can hinder what he has promised or purposed. Romans 8:31 says if God be for us, who can be against us. What that means is if God is fighting on your behalf no opposition of whatever kind will be able to stand. God did not need the gates of Jericho to do what he was doing; neither does he need doors in your life to be opened to complete what he has started. Don’t put human limitations on Him, He is God.

Life Application:

Maintain an expectation that God will bring you through regardless of the circumstances that you face.

Prayer:

Lord, I want to pause and tell you thanks for your daily protection. You have saved me from dangerous situations time and time again. You have shown numerous times that regardless of the difficulties I face, you are with me always. Thanks for being a loving and considerate father. In Jesus’ name, amen.
