Get to Know Jesus on a Deeper Level

Luke 19:5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for today I must abide at thy house.

How many of us have been content with just knowing about Jesus? Our knowledge of him is mostly limited to what we have heard about him rather than having a deep personal relationship with him. Don’t be content with only knowing about Him, Jesus wants to know you at a deep level.  

Zacchaeus was not satisfied with knowing about Jesus, he wanted to know him on a deeper level. Luke 19:3 said “he sought to see Jesus who he was”.  He would have heard good things about Jesus but had never met Him in person, so he left his home and pursued after knowing Jesus. When Jesus reached the place where Zacchaeus was, he said  to him “Zacchaeus, come down for today I must abide at thy house”. The message that Jesus was transmitting to Zacchaeus was that He too wanted him to get to know him on a deep level. Jesus wants you to know that He is desirous of you knowing Him deeper.

In following in the footsteps of Zacchaeus, there are 3 things that we can use to get to know Jesus on a deeper level. 

The first is passion. It takes passion to know God deeply. Zacchaeus revealed his passion when he refused to quit when the crowd prevented him from seeing Jesus. He looked for his next best alternative and climbed up into the sycamore tree that was along the way where Jesus was passing. 

The second thing needed to know God deeply is total surrender. Jesus instructed Zacchaeus to “come down”; not only did he need to “come down” literally, if he was going to know Jesus deeply he would also have to “come down” or totally surrender spiritually. 

 Finally, to get to know Jesus deeply, you have to spend time with Him. Jesus gave Zacchaeus access to spend time with him by “abiding at his house”.

Life Application:  The same access that was given to Zacchaeus has been afforded to you, so there is no excuse not to know him deeper. You only need passion, total surrender and rearranging your time to spend more time with him daily.

Prayer: Lord, just to be close to you is where I want to be. To wrap myself inside your arms and get to know you on a deeper level. Draw me close to you Lord and reveal more of who you are. In Jesus name, amen.
