Proverbs 22:9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.
Are you carrying the abundance mindset or the scarcity mindset? The person with the abundance mindset thinks they have enough to give to those who are less fortunate, even if what they have is relatively small.
The scarcity mindset says I do not have enough to give, so they do not give. Regardless of the size of your bank account, always carry the abundance mindset. Proverbs 22:9 tells us that the person with a bountiful eye or the abundance mindset shall be blessed. The reason they are blessed is because they “giveth their bread to the poor”. Two words in the scripture that require careful attention are the words “giveth “and “poor”. The use of the word “giveth” suggests that giving to the poor is a continuous activity of the person with the abundance mindset; for them giving to the poor is a lifestyle.
What is so significant about giving to the poor why the scripture specifically mentions the poor? It is not because giving to other categories of people does not attract the blessings of God. The scripture is pointing us to another characteristic of the person with the abundance mindset. Unlike those who give to those who can give back to them, the person with the abundance mindset gives to people who are not able to give back to them and when they give to those who are unable to give back to them, they do it with no expectation of receiving anything in return. The reason they operate in this way is because they see God as their rewarder; therefore, they give with the knowledge that God will reward them. If you do not yet carry the abundance mindset, do whatever it takes to get it. You will be blessed by the Lord.
Life Application: Carry the abundance mindset by continually giving to the poor and looking to God for your reward whenever you give.
Prayer: Lord, increase the abundance mindset in me. May I give with no ulterior motives. In Jesus’ name, amen.
