Seek Wisdom

Daily Devotiomal

Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

It is possible to throw time, money and resources at a problem and see absolutely no results. The woman with the issue of blood had that experience, for 12 years she threw all the money that she had at her problem, but it never went away.  The reason for that  is the fact that  wisdom is the primary thing that is required to create change. Because of how important wisdom is, Solomon encouraged us in Proverbs 4:7 to “get wisdom”. What he was saying was that we must reach for wisdom or be in constant pursuit of it.

King Solomon was in constant pursuit of wisdom: there were two (2) ways that he demonstrated that.  The first is that he asked God for wisdom in 1 Kings 3:9. Asking God for wisdom is the first step that we should take in reaching for wisdom because God is the source of all wisdom. James 1:5 encourages this approach when it says, “if any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally”.

Secondly, Solomon’s pursuit of wisdom never stopped at asking God for wisdom, he also sought out wisdom. He said in Ecclesiastes 7:28 “I applied mine heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and the reason of things”. In doing this it is likely that Solomon would have read books, spoken to experts in different fields and carefully observed his environment. These are all things that we must also do to get more wisdom.

David’s approach to getting wisdom was different from that of Solomon, but equally as important. His method was to enquire of God so that he could get wisdom specific to the situations that he was faced with. What we should realize is that there is no one way to reach for wisdom, but what is necessary is that we are in constant need of wisdom to create the change we want to see.

Life Application: Seek wisdom by asking God for more. In addition, enquire of God what to do, read books or listen to audio resources and talk with experts in the field of interest.

Prayer: Father, you have such great wisdom beyond what is humanly possible. I seek wisdom and ask that you increase my wisdom in different areas of life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
