1 Peter 3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteousness, and his ears are open to their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

Righteousness opens the ears of God to your prayers. Make it your priority to live your life based on what the word of God says.

God does not open his ears to every prayer. In 2 Samuel 12:16-18 David fasted and prayed for  his son who came out of the adulterous relationship with God to be made well, but God did not give ear to that prayer.  God did not listen to Moses when he begged him to let him go across to the promised land in Deut 3:23-26 because he struck the rock rather than speaking to the rock as God told him. God told Ezekiel in Ezekiel 20:3 to tell the elders of Israel that he would not be enquired by them because of their abominations.  It is notable that the reasons for unanswered prayers in the 3 examples cited above relate to unrighteousness and a failure to follow God’s instruction to the letter.  Disobedience closes God’s ear to our prayers.

Peter reminded us in 1 Peter 3:12 that practicing righteousness is key to the ears of God. Therefore, obedience cannot be taken for granted. We all want our prayers to be answered, so it is important to live righteously. Disobedience causes the face of the Lord to be turned from us resulting in unanswered prayer.

Life Application:  Regardless of what it may cost you, live your life based on what God’s word has said.

Prayer: Lord, you have stated numerous times, the importance of righteousness to you. Therefore, help me to live righteous and walk in your ways all the days of my life.
