2 Samuel 2 And it came to pass after this, that David enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the Lord said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto Hebron.

Most of us take the approach where we wait for the word of God to come to pass in our lives, without recognizing that we too have a role to play. God did not lift up the Children of Israel from out of Egypt and dropped them into the land of promise. With his direction they had to walk a long way, and then when it was time to possess it they had to fight for it. Because it was a promise made by God, He was with them throughout and played His role by giving them direction and making their impossible situations possible.

Jesus brought to past the prophetic word spoken concerning him in Zechariah 9:9 that He would come riding on a donkey. He did not wait for God the Father to take the donkey to him. Instead, he took the initiative and sent his disciples to go and untie the donkey. The key point that you cannot afford to miss is that even though God has spoken a word concerning your life you share in the responsibility to bring it to pass. Do not just sit and wait on God to do it.

David took responsibility to bring the word of God to pass that he would become King of Israel. When Saul died David was living in the land of the Philistines at that time, he then enquired of the Lord in 2 Samuel 2:2 if he should return to the land of Judah. God told him that he should go specifically to Hebron and He did as he was told and instantly the men of Judah made him King of the tribe of Judah. Seven years later he was anointed King over all Israel. Could David have become King while continuing to live in the land of the Philistines? Certainly not, he had to go where God said he would rule and the word of God came to pass.

Based on the examples provided there are 4 ways that we can take responsibility to bring the word of God to pass concerning our lives: take initiative, follow divine direction, be willing to fight for what He has promised and have faith that he will take you through the impossible situations because his word must come to pass.

Life Application: Bring to past the word of God into your life by taking initiative, seeking and following God’s direction.

Prayer: Lord, help me to take a proactive approach to the things you have spoken concerning my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
