Position Yourself to Receive More

Daily Devotional

1 Samuel 2:21 And the Lord visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the Lord.

When we give to God, He does not merely give back to us what we give to Him; He will always give us more. Consistent with that in Matthew 19:29 Jesus said, “and everyone that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life”. What the scripture was communicating was that whatever we give to God we can expect to receive more.

Hannah was an example of giving to God and receiving a multiple of what she gave. After being barren for years and desperately wanting a child, God opened her womb, and she gave birth to Samuel. While asking for a son, she had promised God that if He gave her a son, she would give him back to Him for his service. When the child was weaned, Hannah brought him to the temple and gave him to the Lord.   After she gave him back to God, 1 Samuels 2:21 tells that God honored her gift by not just giving her one more. God visited her situation and gave her three (3) sons and two (2) daughters. She gave to God one child and God gave her five (5) more.  One of the things that could prevent us from giving to God is the view that when we do, we are losing something. However, the experience of Hannah shows that when we give to God, we are not losing anything, we are positioning ourselves to receive more. No longer allow the fear of loss to hinder you from giving to God, see it as an opportunity to get more.

Life Application: Position yourself to receive more by willingly giving to God what He requires.

Prayer: Lord, I thank you that you are God who multiplies and gives exceedingly more than we can ask or imagine. Help me to give to you Sacrificially knowing you will multiply what I have given. In Jesus’ name, amen.
