Jeremiah 1:19 And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the Lord, to deliver thee.
Believing that because you are doing good or the purpose of God then you will not face opposition, is a false notion. All the greats of the bible got a fight in their endeavor to fulfill their purpose. Moses got a fight in his attempt to lead the people out of Egypt. Paul was doing well preaching the gospel all over the world and he too had to contend with major opposition. Opposition will come.
When it was time for Jeremiah to fulfill his purpose, God told him in Jeremiah 1:19 that “they would fight against him”. God was telling Jeremiah to expect opposition; it was inevitable. Bear in mind that Jeremiah was going to be doing good and he was perfectly aligned to the will of God; nevertheless, he would face opposition. Jeremiah faced opposition because the people did not like what he was saying, although it was from the Lord. In addition to attacks from the forces of evil, people will oppose you because the good that you are doing does not fit with their agenda.
Opposition will come, but you will overcome. After telling Jeremiah that they would fight against him, God went on to say that they would not prevail against him, because He would deliver him. What God was telling Jeremiah was that despite the opposition, he could expect to overcome. Don’t be daunted by the opposition that you face in your efforts to do God’s will; victory is certain because God will deliver. In Jeremiah 38, the princes placed Jeremiah in prison with the intent to kill him, but God favored him, and he was delivered. Opposition will come, but because God is on your side, you will overcome.
Life Application: Despite the opposition, focus on fulfilling your purpose, knowing that God will deliver you.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for being honest in telling us that opposition will come. Thank you also for the reassurance that even though opposition will come, you will deliver us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
